Hi all! I know it’s been a while since the last chapter, and I apologize for the hiatus. In the interest of full transparency, I moved states in June and it took way more out of me than I’d expected. I needed to take some time for my mental health, and to make sure I was sharing a version of the story I was happy with. Fractured Magic will return this October, but first, I have some announcements.
The biggest one first: I’ve decided to leave Substack. I recently learned about the site’s content moderation problem, and while this is a personal decision I wouldn’t ask or expect anyone else to make, I’m uncomfortable with this and have decided to host my webserials elsewhere. And on that note…I’m moving both the Case Files and Fractured Magic over to ghost! Ultimately, I think this change will be a good thing: ghost’s functionalities let me roll up my website, my Substacks, AND my Patreon all into one!
Both stories will remain free, and I have no intention of ever changing that, but hosting a website does come with fees. I’m happy to cover these, but every bit of support is greatly appreciated! The new website has several optional paid tiers, each coming with their own perks!
$2/month - The Patron - This is the no-perks, “I just want to support” tier.
$5/month - The Folk Hero - With this tier, you’ll receive a monthly behind-the-scenes newsletter that includes sneak peeks, character art, and glimpses into my creative process.
$8/month - The Detective - In addition to the behind-the-scenes newsletter, this tier will get you early access to ALL new chapters (both Henry Bell and Fractured Magic) — a week before they’re available to the public.

**If you’re currently a free subscriber and would like to remain a free subscriber, you don’t have to do anything.**
Ghost allows me to automatically transfer Substack subscribers to my new website. However, if you’d like to join one of the paid tiers, you’ll need to do that manually.
I understand if you no longer wish to subscribe to the story — you signed up for a Substack serial, and this will no longer be that. I’ll be transferring everyone over on Sunday (10/6), so you have until then to unsubscribe. (You’ll be able to unsubscribe anytime after that, of course, but you’ll have to do it through ghost). I’m still in the process of moving Fractured Magic over to ghost (currently only the first chapter is up), but I hope to have that migration complete by the time I transfer everyone over. And then it’s on with the story!
